Investigators Determine Cause of De Ruad Street Fire

Summary:

The Fire Investigation Unit, made up of investigators from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire and detectives from the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, investigated the cause of the fire that occurred on Saturday, August 17, at 2018 De Ruad Street in Uptown/West Oakland.

Investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be incendiary in nature.

After conducting interviews with residents, it was relayed to investigators that a juvenile was believed to have started the fire.

Investigators interviewed a 6-year-old boy who admitted to using matches to light a fire in the laundry room area of a second floor apartment.

The boy and his family have been referred to the County Child Line where they will direct them toward any available services and provide the child with the help he needs.

No criminal charges will be laid.
