Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers from Zone 2 responded to reports of a gunshot on Fort Duquesne Blvd. and 7th Street Downtown just after 10 p.m.
When they arrived on scene they found a male victim who told them he had been shuffling through his backpack at a bus stop when he triggered his own gun, accidentally shooting himself in the left leg.
He was transferred by EMS to a local hospital in stable condition.
Police ran the firearm, which was legally registered to the victim.
The Mobile Crime Unit processed the scene.
The investigation continues.
