Pittsburgh Police, Fire and EMS responded to a multi-vehicle collision on the Liberty Bridge that occurred just before 12:20 a.m.
When they arrived on scene they learned a vehicle travelling inbound had crossed the median and struck another vehicle head-on.
A third vehicle was also hit.
EMS transported two patients in critical condition to Mercy Hospital. There is no immediate information on the gender of the two critical victims.
A third patient, a female, was transported to the hospital to treat a possible broken leg. A fourth patient, a male, was taken for observation.
The Liberty Bridge was closed in both directions while the Bureau's Collision Investigation Unit processed the scene.
UPDATE: A male victim who was transported in critical condition later died in hospital. Any additional details will be provided by
the ME's office.
