Pittsburgh Police Investigate Simple Assault and Ethnic Intimidation Incident in OaklandĀ

Summary:

Pittsburgh Police officers were dispatched to take a report of an assault that occurred in the area of Semple and Ward streets at approximately 2:00 a.m on Friday, September 27, 2024,

A male told officers he was walking in the area when he came across a group of about eight males who saw his Star of David necklace and hurled insults about Israel. The victim said they argued back and forth when at least three of the males then began punching and kicking him, causing him a bruised lip. A bystander intervened to interrupt the assault.

The victim later reported the incident to University of Pittsburgh Police. Pittsburgh Police handled the report as the incident occurred off campus.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police is working with FBI Pittsburgh to fully investigate this incident in an effort to positively identify all of the suspects.
