UPDATE (Dec. 11 at 2 p.m.):
An arrest warrant has been issued in an animal cruelty case.
Jwanna Martin, 49, is charged with cruelty to animals and neglect of animals for abandoning her husband's dog named “Remy.”
The couple has surrendered ownership of the dog to the care and custody of Humane Animal Rescue.
ORIGINAL POST (Dec. 4):
Pittsburgh Bureau of Police are investigating an animal cruelty case.
A citizen on the 00 block of Knox Avenue waved down Zone 3 officers on patrol around 7:50 a.m. to alert them to a dog tied to a dumpster.
Officers found the dog outside an apartment complex. It was emaciated and shivering. A dog crate was inside the dumpster.
Officers called Animal Control which transported the dog to a local shelter.
Police are investigating. Anyone with information on the dog is asked to call Officer Christine Luffey at (412) 488 8425.
