Pittsburgh Burea of Police officers responded to a report of a suicidal male in an apartment on the 4500 block of Liberty Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.
Responding officers from Zone 5 made contact with the male, who said he wanted to hurt himself and others and that he had a cache of weapons.
Police closed Liberty between Ella and Taylor streets and moved pedestrians off the sidewalks.
SWAT was called and Police began negotiating with the male.
Around 8:45 p.m., the male surrendered without incident. EMS took him to UPMC Presbyterian for medical clearance, after which he will go to Western Psych for a full evaluation.
Liberty Avenue reopened around 9:10 p.m.
Tonight, the City-County Building is illuminated to recognize Poison Prevention Week and the 50th Anniversary of "Mr. Yuk" in partnership with Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC.
