Incident Type: Reported kidnapping
Location: Zones 5 and 3.
Summary: Pittsburgh Bureau of Police officers responded to a possible abduction of a 1-year-old baby girl shortly after 8 p.m. on the 7400 block of Mt. Vernon Street.
Responding officers from Zone 5 interviewed a babysitter who stated a female, who was known to the baby’s family and the babysitter, went to the residence and without permission left with the 1-year-old.
Police began to search the Zone 5 area and other locations for the suspect and the baby.
Around 9:30 p.m., officers located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle on the Birmingham Bridge. The suspect was apprehended and the 1-year-old girl was found safe inside the vehicle.
The child was transported to UPMC Children's Hospital for evaluation.
The suspect was taken to Police Headquarters for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing.
