UPDATE: The male first responders were searching for in this incident has been located safely on land.
Just before 1:15 p.m. Police, Fire and EMS responded to 100 Waterfront Drive at Washington’s Landing for reports of a male who had been swimming with a friend who then went underwater and did not resurface.
River Rescue and the Fireboat responded to the area by water. The Fish and Boat Commission was also on scene to slow boat traffic while the search was underway.
Three separate divers did a thorough search of the area, but did not find the male. After more than an hour the search moved to a recovery mode.
The investigation continues.
