Pittsburgh Police, Fire and EMS responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of Bates Street and Second Avenue shortly after noon.
Six people were injured in the crash. Five patients were transported to local hospitals, all in stable condition.
The driver of one vehicle fled the scene and jumped into the Monongahela River. He later swam back to the riverbank and got out, where Zone 4 officers picked him up. The male, who had an outstanding warrant and left drug paraphernalia in the vehicle he was driving, was taken into custody. Additional charges are pending.
The investigation continues.
