Summer Camps Spotlight: YP Summer Programs!
In the Summer Camps Spotlight this week is Hometown Hoops Mini-Camps. This exciting program, hosted by the Allegheny County Parks Department, runs from June 11 through August 2, 2018.
Q&ATell us more about Hometown Hoops! What does the camp focus on, and who should attend?
Hometown Hoops Mini-Camps is series of one-day events held across Pittsburgh, where kids can get outside, learn and play basketball, and make new friends! Anyone can join and you can attend as many of the 38 mini-camps as you like. Kids aged 9-18 are eligible to participate.
YP Summer Programs are designed to connect Pittsburgh’s youth and offer safe, fun, and productive activities for young people. YouthPlaces focuses our efforts on under-served youth in high-risk communities where few other agencies operate. Our high-quality afterschool and summer programs engage youth from within their community, and are responsive to input and feedback from youth leaders and the community as a whole.Why should I attend Hometown Hoops?
This unique program is an excellent opportunity for kids and teens to have fun with their peers and improve their basketball skills. Each mini-camp is staffed by experienced asketball coaches who are invested in each of their students. Whether you’re interested in learning more about basketball, or simply want to get outside and get active this summer, this program is perfect for you! Kids of every skill level are welcome -- no previous experience with basketball is required.What does Hometown Hoops cost to attend?
Each of the 38 mini-camps are totally free of charge! Just bring your basketball attire with you. Additionally, we provide each participant with a free boxed lunch thanks to the Allegheny County Summer Food Program. We encourage everyone interested to pre-register online to help ensure lunchbox availability.What are the times and locations for YP Summer Programs?
Summer programs are hosted at YouthPlaces’ 17 locations across Pittsburgh. Dates, times, and locations for each program vary; please reach out for a complete schedule.What are the times and locations for Hometown Hoops?
The 38 basketball mini-camps will take place between 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, across the city. Please check our website for dates for each location.
Locations will include: Clairton, Hulton Arbors, Batch Playground, California Ave Park, Hosanna House, Monview Heights, McKeesport Safe Passage, Crawford Village, Meyers Ridge, Hays Manor, Wilmerding YMCA, Pleasant Ridge, Harrison Village, Riverview, Sharpsburg Family Worship, Hawkins Village and Natrona Ballfield.Where can I find more information?
