- Details: Join your PGH Park Rangers for a guided hike around Pittsburgh's Parks! These hikes are a slow pace and low-milage, perfect for new hikers! All hikes are the first Thursday of each month lasting from 10:30AM-12PM. All hikes will be a slow-to-light pace with few stopping points throughout! Participants are urged to wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen, and pack a water bottle for this hike series. Registration is not required but recommended for updates and cancellations due to inclement weather. Registration for all hikes open on March 1st!

9/3: Intro to Frick Park Trails
- Location: Frick Park, Bowling Greens (Use nearest residential address of 7371 Reynolds Street)
- Time: 5-6:30PM
- Details: Over the course of the summer, this trail series will explore different trails around Frick Park giving everyone new ways to experience the park from multiple different entrances! Friendly, leashed dogs are welcomed.
This hike will be meeting at the bowling green area of Frick Park (use residential address of 7317 Reynolds Street) to explore the northern most section of the park. Ample street parking is available along Reynolds Street and a portable bathroom unit will be available. Please pack your own water. This hike will be approximately 1.45 miles long and will be a gradual pace with a 125ft elevation gain. All trails will be wide and covered in mostly compressed limestone.
9/6: Hays Tree ID Hike

- Details: Join your Park Rangers for a guided hike around Pittsburgh’s newest city park. Hays Woods consists of 626 acres of undeveloped woodlands; a perfect place for a Tree ID hike! We will cover about 1.5 miles on intermediate terrain. Come prepared to walk on narrow single-track trails, some uneven terrain and some hills. We suggest bringing water, closed toed shoes and long pants. Leashed dogs are welcome. Registration recommended for details and cancelation notifications.

Join us for our FINAL introduction to Frick Park Trails for the 2026 season! This hike will be meeting at the bowling green area of Frick Park (use residential address of 7317 Reynolds Street) to explore the northern most section of the park. Ample street parking is available along Reynolds Street and a portable bathroom unit will be available. Please pack your own water. During this hike we will learn a loop path to connect the Point Breeze side of the park to the Regent Square community. Participants should prepare for a 2-mile loop with 184ft elevation gain. Terrains will vary including crush limestone pathways, descending wooden steps, and crossing asphalt covered roads.
9/17: Hays Woods Park Guided Hike- Mushrooms

- Location: Greenleaf Trailhead (1870 Greenleaf St, Pittsburgh, PA 15211)

- Details: Join a Park Ranger for a guided hike through the scenic trails of Emerald View Park, where woodland tranquility meets a touch of city edge. This approximately 2.5-mile route gains about 367 feet in elevation and is best suited for fit hikers of all experience levels, making it a great outing for folks looking to explore one of Pittsburgh’s most unique green spaces while getting a little cardio. Along the way, you’ll travel narrow, rustic trails that wind through lush forest, with moments of urban character woven into the landscape and a surprise, breathtaking skyline view that makes the climb worthwhile.
Participants should wear closed toe shoes suitable for uneven terrain and bring water to stay hydrated. The group will meet at the Greenleaf Trailhead parking lot (across from 1870 Greenleaf Street) where a portable toilet is available nearby. Come ready to move, learn, and enjoy a refreshing outdoor experience led by a knowledgeable Park Ranger.

- Details: Join Pittsburgh Park rangers in improving the ecology of our beautiful city parks! We will be removing invasive plant species from the park to stop them from spreading and from further upsetting the balance of local ecosystems. No experience necessary! Participants will receive a brief training on how to properly weed out these plants and how to use the provided tools. Please dress for the weather, wear closed toed shoes, and remember to stay hydrated and bring water bottles.

9/21: Moon Hike and Observatory Moon Viewing
- Location: Allegheny Observatory (159 Riverview Ave)
- Time: 7:00PM-9:00PM
- Details: Meet at the Allegheny Observatory where we will begin our hike as the sun sets and the moon rises. The hike will be about a mile but will take us an hour with stops to discuss nocturnal animals with Pittsburgh Park Rangers. There are elevation changes and some rugged trails, please wear closed toed shoes. After the hike we will briefly tour the Observatory before viewing the moon through the telescope. This is a very weather dependent event and will be canceled even if it’s just cloudy.
